Why Existenz.
The name is our own; the inspiration comes from the philosophers. In the existential tradition, from Kierkegaard to Jaspers, Existenz evokes the one particular self a person is: not the dates or the résumé, but a life as it was lived, chosen and told. Getting that self on the record, vividly and in your family’s own words, is the whole of our work.
A life deserves a better record than a timeline of posts and a four-paragraph obituary. The best record is made while the person can still tell it, or by the people who loved them, soon after. Everything we sell is a version of that one conviction.
Small, senior teams: a professional interviewer, a writer or director, an editor. The person who talks with your mother is the person who shapes her story. Technology helps us transcribe and archive; people do the telling here.
Remote across the United States and Canada, by phone or video, with a recording kit we ship for film and audio work. In person in Vancouver, Toronto and Seattle, with travel at cost beyond, and new cities as the bench grows.
Existenz is founder-led and deliberately small. Around the founder sits a vetted bench: one senior writer, one editor, a director-editor and videographers in each service city, growing deliberately.
Four things we will always be able to say.
